Licences and attribution

transito-analyzer is built on open data and open-source software. This page lists what we use, under which licence, and what that asks of you when you reuse a result.

OpenStreetMap data

Every street in the simulator comes from OpenStreetMap and is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Any map, screenshot or Road Network you publish must carry that credit.

The Road Network we send to your browser is a restructured copy of OpenStreetMap data, which the ODbL treats as a derivative database. It is therefore offered under the ODbL too, carries licence, attribution and source fields in the payload, and the conversion code that produces it is public. The OpenStreetMap Foundation explains how to get the raw data. Simulation results (Flows, Cycles, Congestion, Bottlenecks) are produced works kept apart from the OSM-derived graph.

Base map tiles

The base map is served by OpenFreeMap from vector tiles produced with OpenMapTiles: the OpenMapTiles schema and tools are BSD-3-Clause and the cartography CC-BY 4.0, and the tiles contain OpenStreetMap data. Low-zoom boundaries come from Natural Earth, public domain. The attribution in the corner of the map is theirs and must stay.

MapLibre GL JS

The map renders with MapLibre GL JS, © 2023 MapLibre contributors, with code from mapbox-gl-js v1.13 and earlier © 2020 Mapbox, both under the BSD-3-Clause licence. The full notice we redistribute is at maplibre-gl-LICENSE.txt.

Data providers

Road data is fetched through an Overpass API instance, place search through Photon by komoot, and the country of a Region's centre through Nominatim, operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation. Each has a usage policy we follow: identified requests, caching and rate limits on our side. Their data is OpenStreetMap data under the ODbL.

Third-party software

The site is built from 67 open-source packages that may run in your browser or on our server. The list is generated from the project's lockfile, so it follows every dependency change; each name links to the package, where its full licence text lives.

transito-analyzer itself

The source code, including the Road Network conversion code, is public at github.com/Thyago331/transito-analyzer. The licence file for the project's own code is being settled; until it is published, the code is shared for reading and for reproducing results. Simulation results you produce are yours to use, with the OpenStreetMap credit above wherever a map or the Road Network appears.
